The Anza Borrego Slot Canyon doesn't start out too deep or narrow, but don't worry that will quickly change as you meander its paths deeper and deeper into the desert. Since we were visiting the Slot Canyon in December, it wasn't too hot outside at around 75 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

After exploring the 2nd set of wind caves, start making your way down the mountain. Many of the campsites fall under the shade of overhead trees, which can be ideal in the desert heat. There are 40 moderate trails in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park ranging from 0.9 to 32.8 miles and from 226 to 6,171 feet above sea level. Start checking them out and you'll be out on the trail in no time! This was our favorite hike in Anza-Borrego. The dirt road to the trailhead is a not well marked off of highway 78. We had no problem driving on the dirt road to get to the parking lot that has a hole in the ground restroom facility.
